MEET Richard Hill 

Owner & Head Instructor at Freedom Martial Arts

Renshi Hill started his martial arts training in Fredericksburg, Va. during the mid 1980s in Shorinji Torakendo Kempo and Jujitsu under the American Kempo Karate Association (AKKA). Renshi Hill received his first black belt in Jujitsu from Master Charles B. Stanley in February 1988. In 1989 Renshi Hill joined the US Army, while on active duty for 20 years he studied several different styles under several different instructors. After a period of continuous study and training under Master Kevin Leonard, Ryu Kyu Kempo Jitsu, Renshi Hill attained his second degree black belt in Ryu Kyu Kempo Jitsu at Ft. Wainwright, Alaska in August of 1993.  Upon leaving Alaska and over the next seven years Renshi Hill continued training and teaching Jujitsu and Kempo karate while assigned to duty in Georgia, Arizona and Texas. In the summer of 2000 while on assignment to Ft. Huachuca, Az. Renshi Hill met Shihan Jeff Hyder and Grand Master Joseph Barnes and was subsequently accepted as a student under both at the American Okinawan Karate Academy in Sierra Vista, Arizona. While studying under Shihan Hyder he was introduced to and diligently studied Isshinryu Karate, Isshin-Shorin-Go Ryu, and Tai Shin Ki Do (The Way of the Body, Mind, and Spirit). In June of 2001 Renshi Hill earned is first degree black belt in Isshin-Shorin-Go Ryu and in June of 2004 he earned his 3rd degree and was awarded the title of Sensei. Renshi Hill retired from active duty in 2009 and opened AOKA Central Texas.  

In May of 2011 Renshi Hill created the art of Chujitsu Ryu and was recognized by the LAOFIMMA/ International Martial Arts Association for his 25 years of study and contribution to the Martial Arts and was awarded a Founder’s Certificate for his style of Martial Arts, Chujitsu Ryu and the title of Renshi. 

Over the course of his 38 years in the martial arts Renshi Hill has studied numerous martial art styles such has; Tae Kwon Do, Hapkido, Tang Soo Do, Iaido, Shotokan, Goju Ryu, American Tiger Jujitsu, Bushido ke Bujutsu, Kosho Ryu Kempo, Arnis, Shiho Krano Kai Jujitsu, Machado BJJ, Kendo,Chanbara, Vee Jujitsuand American Kenpo.


He holds Black Belts in several Arts.

  • 5th Degree Tai Shin Ki Do
  • 5th Degree Chujitsu-Ryu
